Each piece of coral is a new carving challenge for me. This time I wanted to carve an amulet used since the time of ancient Greece, A superstitious and apotropaic symbol: The hand with the horns.
Not specifically aimed at a particular person, The gesture of the horns is sustained to avoid the bad luck or nefarious events, When these are mentioned, With the same meaning of touching iron objects, Touch or beat with the knuckles on the wood (In many countries of the world, But not Italy). The gesture can be typically facing downwards (this also to distinguish it from the previous meaning, “infedeltà”, typically facing upwards.

I realized this pendant carving the beautiful top quality Mediterranean red coral without any inclusion or hole, perfect in its smooth surface. I tried to represent the anatomy of the hand in detail by stopping it in the superstitious gesture of the horns, using simple tools and a lot of passion for sculpture.

I then completed this precious yellow gold pendant, with a hood and belt loop , and a small gold chain bracelet. As usual everything is done by hand, with simple traditional tools, in my studio in Codogno, Italia.

Like all my jewelry, I will send this amulet in coral manu horns complete with a certificate of authenticity and warranty stamped and signed Coral Nord, and suitable packaging to store it in.
