CORAL NORD:  poetry in a jewel

I INTRODUCE MYSELF:

My name is Maurizio Riboldi and I am an artisan goldsmith. I have always been interested in art in all its forms: l’architecture, the sculpture, painting, the cinema, music … anything that can convey an emotion can be found in my online handcrafted jewelry pages.

Each of my creations is born from a large quantity of memories, d’impressions, images related to my experience, which materialize into a high jewelry accessory through the fusion of poetry and artisanal technique.Gold and mother of pearl pendant

I believe in the ability of jewelry to tell a story, to provoke emotions and suggestions. For that, each of my pieces is made with the greatest care and attention to detail: metal parts (always gold or silver) are forged with ancient techniques, each plate, wire or component is rigorously worked one by one by hand with passion.

I took several gemology courses, but I had the most experience in the field, having to personally choose the stones that will be mounted on my creations.

I love to choose, for my jewelry, also stones considered to be “ pauvres ”, to contrast with the so-called “ précieuses ”.  Donc agates, corals fossils, crystals with imaginative and colorful inclusions, bref aussi des pierres qui n’ont pas seulement une beauté due à la pureté ou à la «citation» mais qui apportent aussi une valeur artistique et narrative.

Une part importante de mon travail d’artisan consiste précisément à recréer de nouveaux bijoux à partir d’éléments «abandonnés» parce qu’ils sont démodés, or too old to still be used. Bringing life back to life “ vieux ” bijou, add new items, remodel the structure, give new, unexpected shapes to an unusual necklace or earrings, is an adventure that is not without difficulties, but which always leads me to great satisfaction.

My search for a unique piece led me, in recent years, to work with even poorer materials like ebony, mother-of-pearl and fossil ivory, which I cut by hand in my workshop. I started almost for fun, by studying some great masters and artists of the recent past, first trying to use recycled materials and gradually choosing materials that also have significant historical or aesthetic value. This is how my mammoth ivory jewelry was born, from Siberia, ebony clasps with coral or shell inlays, but also experiments with plexiglass and futuristic plastics.
